My Kid Dropped The F-bomb To My MIL Today!
My kid dropped the f-bomb in casual conversation today to my mother in law. Mom for the win today! She stated that there was a problem that she had to talk to me about that an incident happened earlier in the day. She said that they were playing a game together and the game box dropped. My son casually stated it’s ok; it is just a f*ckin box. She said that she tried not to laugh and told him that it was a bad word that he shouldn’t say. Another family member said it was a dirty word. He was totally confused.
My mother in law is telling me this scenario and watching my reaction. I told her that I tell him that there are certain words we don’t use in everyday conversations. She stared at me. I don’t think she was impressed with my answer.
I let my kid swear but not at anyone or in conversations. I let him belt out a bad word via song lyrics and rock on with him. If he swears in his own space so be it. It releases tension. There are worse things than a bad word here or there.
In our house, we sometimes swear. It comes out but never at one another or about someone. I am positive though that he isn’t just getting it from our family or me. There are lots of influences out there. Mind you no one I know is innocent about swearing, including my tea-totaling mother in law. She uses a key god like phrase occasionally and when my son was little he used the same phrase frequently.
I asked him about it later on in the day. He told me that it was a joke. I know that he is just testing everyone but to me I laughed and she didn’t.
